Bindalli: The Tree of Life

bindalli kilim from keban elazig
Bindalli (means having thousand branches in English) signifies immortality and afterlife. It is a form of "tree of life" that is common in most of shamanic cultures from Anatolia (Asia Minor) to the farthest corners of Siberia.

It implies hope of afterlife in addition to believing in it. There is an element of uncertainty, a trial, an exam. Immortality is not for granted, it has to be earned.

This particular kilim (small carpet or rug) is from Keban, Elazig, using all natural dyes and the colors will last very long even after direct exposure to sunlight.
